Janet is a British artist working in Cookham, Berkshire and is exclusively represented by the Carina Haslam Art Gallery in Buckinghamshire.
Born in 1964 in Taplow, near Windsor, Berkshire, Janet is rapidly building a reputation and market for her serenely delicate and atmospheric floral landscapes. In her words, “My floral and landscape paintings are inspired by eastern art with an interest in the surface quality created by using various mediums on gesso panels (similar to plaster and used for icon and fresco paintings). Initially working from a photograph or drawing, my paintings often develop into a semi-abstract image triggered by my imagination and a spontaneous play of mark-making. The paint effect and patterns in the gesso along with scraping back layers to reveal different colours are all part of the process and guide the work as the painting goes along. I try to create something of the quality of ancient frescos and distressed walls which have a nostalgic and timeless effect.”
Represented by Carina Haslam Art (CHA) since 2012, Janet has regularly sold out all her work at the Affordable Art Fair in London and is in high demand throughout the UK. The gallery has sold works by Janet at the Saatchi Gallery (Strarta Art Fair) to US collectors based in New York City, where her work has been exhibited and sold by Carina Haslam Art at Affordable Art Fair NYC – her work also being listed as one of the top 20 standout artists at the Fair by Artnet website. Janet also has a diptych painting hanging in the penthouse suite at the Raffles Hotel in Shenzhen, China.
Janet studied Fine Art painting (BA Hons) at the Wimbledon School of Art (1998 – 2001) after completing a foundation year at the Berkshire School of Art & Design (1997 - 1998).
